To operate a building without producing carbon dioxide emissions requires renewable, zero carbon sources of energy to provide both heat and power. Harnessing solar energy is one of the most attractive and renewable means of generating zero carbon energy and the roof is the ideal surface for solar energy collection. Since 1997 Redland has been a leading supplier of roof-integrated solar systems in the UK and from April 1st 2010 the demand for such systems is expected to grow dramatically.
The introduction of a new Government financial incentive scheme called the "Feed-In Tariff" scheme for renewable electricity systems such as photovoltaic roof panels, as well as a similar scheme from April 2011 for renewable heat systems such as roof-integrated solar hot water panels, is designed to help the UK Government increase the contribution renewable energy makes to the national grid.
In this section you can find out more information about Redland's photovoltaic and solar hot water systems and how you can play your part in helping transform the UK national grid.
Our second generation of PV tiles encompasses five new roof tile specific PV systems - each developed to match one of our most popular tile ranges. Each one has been designed for performance, ease of installation and good looks, and offers significant benefits in all three areas over 'above the roof' panel systems where poor installation can compromise the roof structure.
Our market-leading Solar Water Heating systems are designed to fit seamlessly alongside our tiles, whilst harnessing the power of the sun to provide environmentally friendly hot water. The hot water generated reduces the energy demand on the boiler system, and when correctly sized can provide up to 70% of a typical households' hot water requirement.
