DUOPLAIN TILES: CHANGE TO FIXING SPECIFICATION

We have been reviewing feedback from roofing contractors about the fixing of DuoPlain tiles. As a result of this, we have been investigating different fixing methods, and can now advise the following change to our fixing specifications.

Tuesday 20, December 2011

The appropriate fixing specification will depend upon the wind uplift calculation. Possible specifications will be:

  • Unfixed (unchanged)
  • Nailed with 45 x 3mm aluminium alloy nails, code 9334 (unchanged)
  • Nailed with 45 x 3.35mm stainless steel ring shanked nails, code 9350 (NEW)
  • Screwed with 38 x 4.2mm stainless steel screws, code 9104 (NEW)

There is no longer a requirement to use clips to fix DuoPlain tiles.

The introduction of a second nailing specification (using the ring shank nail) means that many more DuoPlain fixing specifications can now be nailed where previously they would have been clipped. This is clearly a more attractive option for roofing contractors.

We would anticipate that option 4 (i.e. requiring screws) will only be required in the most exposed locations.

Our FixMaster program has been updated using the above recommendations so from now on specifications will include this new guidance.
