History

Braas Monier is the quality leader in roofing. And with the re-introduction of the Redland name in 2008 it is a brand that has stood for roofing know-how and experience for over 90 years.

1919Redhill Tile Company established. First concrete tiles produced in November.
1946Company name changes to Redland Tiles Limited. Redland purchases the Moorhouse Brick and Concrete Tile Product Company.
1949First single lap concrete tile launched - Redland 49.
1950Redland 50 Double Roman is launched - The first variable headlap tile.
1954Redland invest £6,000 in small German company headed by Rudolf Braas.
1955Redland quoted on the London Stock Exchange.
1961-1969Rapid growth as Redland acquires or opens 7 new factories including the Grovebury Tile Works in Leighton Buzzard (later to be replaced as Vandyke), Burlescombe, Wigan, Shawell (Rugby) and Stirling.
1965First Wind Tunnel opened in Horsham.
1969Redland purchases a large holding in Australian company, Monier.
1970UK's first Dry Verge system launched.
1976Company name changes to Redland Roof Tiles Limited.
1978REDIES computer estimating service launched and UK's first Dry Ridge system developed.
1983The roofing industry's first Training Centre, in South Cerney, opened.
1984Redland acquires Rosemary Brick and Tile Company. Rassau factory opened manufacturing the UK's first reconstituted interlocking slate - Cambrian.
1985Cambrian Slate officially launched. First Dry Ventilated Ridge launched.
1990The Training Centre expands at South Cerney. Dry Hip launched. New £2 million Wind Tunnel opened at Horsham by Michael Fish. Bedworth clay plant opened.
1991Cambrian Slate wins Queens Award for Technological Achievement. Mini Stonewold launched. FixMaster, a computerised fixing specification service, is launched.
1992Acquisition of Steetley Brick & Tile.
1994SpecMaster NBS-based roof specification service launched. DesignMaster CAD package introduced.
1997Redland acquired by Lafarge. 
2003Redland Roofing Systems changes its name to Lafarge Roofing. 
2004Launch of DuoPlain, an interlocking plain tile.
2005Rapid Flashing, a lead free flashing, launched.
2007Lafarge sells Lafarge Roofing to PAI Partners, maintaining a 35% stake in the business.
2008Lafarge Roofing becomes Monier Ltd. 2008 sees the return of the respected Redland brand in the UK. 
2009Redland celebrates its 90th birthday.
2013Rosemary celebrates its 175th birthday with the launch of Craftsman, a handcrafted clay plain tile.
2014The Monier Group is renamed The Braas-Monier Building Group.
